bullet ComponentArt Releases Web.UI for ASP.NET Version 2007.2

Adding Groundbreaking Editor and SpellCheck, plus Direct Binding to Web Services

November 15, 2007 ComponentArt is pleased to announce the full release of version 2007.2 of Web.UI for ASP.NET, the premium suite of user interface controls for web development in .NET. Available for immediate purchase or free trial download, version 2007.2 of Web.UI adds two highly-anticipated controls - Editor and SpellCheck - as well as the ability for controls to bind directly to Web Services.

The new release of Web.UI can be downloaded today from ComponentArt's website at http://www.componentart.com.

ComponentArt Editor for ASP.NET is one of the most significant and powerful controls to be added to Web.UI to date, and greatly enhances the overall value of the suite. Completely customizable in its look and functionality, the Editor can be easily configured to deliver a plethora of features and options to the end user, or to be as fast and light as desired. Most important of all, the new Editor control overcomes the inconsistencies found among different browsers, delivering uniform behaviour and consistent XHTML output across all modern browsers.

"An Editor control is something our end users have been demanding from us for some time" says Steve Rolufs, C.E.O. of ComponentArt. "We're pleased to have taken the time to get it right, and deliver an Editor with truly breakthrough features and capabilities". Rolufs adds "Our users are excited to add this powerful tool to their arsenal, while being freed from the headache of accommodating the numerous browser-specific anomalies that plague other editor controls".

Joining Editor in this release is an advanced, AJAX-enabled spell checking control: ComponentArt SpellCheck for ASP.NET. Working in concert with the new Editor control or independently, SpellCheck features support for custom dictionaries and multiple languages.

Another significant leap forward for the Web.UI suite is the new ability for controls to bind directly to web services and JSON collections. Taking AJAX applications to the next level, this capability will allow developers to create even richer, more immediate web experiences.

"The ability for our most powerful controls to bind directly to a web service from the client opens a whole new door for developers" says Miljan Braticevic, President of ComponentArt. "This new feature eliminates the overhead of sending requests to the web form containing the server control, and provides a super-efficient pipeline directly from a client to a web service or JSON collection. The immediacy and the clean separation of tiers enable an elegant and high-performance alternative to the currently common AJAX techniques."

Available in progressively more powerful builds for ASP.NET, ASP.NET 2.0 and ASP.NET AJAX – Web.UI version 2007.2 is priced at $799 for an individual Developer License, and $999 for a Subscription License. Bulk-discounted Enterprise licenses are also available for teams of 3 or more developers. Customers with active Subscription and Enterprise licenses will receive Web.UI 2007.2 at no additional charge, and have already been issued license keys through their user account on http://www.componentart.com.

Going far beyond basic compatibility or interoperability, Web.UI for ASP.NET AJAX offers true integration with ASP.NET AJAX in several key areas: All controls inherit from the Sys.UI.Control client-side base class, expose extensive client-side object models built for the AJAX Library type system, and feature the unique ability to be programmatically modified on the client - with immediate refresh of the corresponding screen area.

"ComponentArt is very excited about our unique positioning in the ASP.NET AJAX space" says Miljan Braticevic, President of ComponentArt. "Rather than create a proprietary AJAX framework of our own, we have embraced Microsoft's new state-of-the-art component model, and delivered the industry's first suite of true ASP.NET AJAX controls. Beginning today, our customers can utilize the best-of-breed AJAX development framework with Microsoft ASP.NET AJAX, and best-of-breed UI controls with ComponentArt Web.UI for ASP.NET AJAX".

Keith Smith, Group Product Manager at Microsoft agrees: "ComponentArt has been a great partner for ASP.NET since the beginning and Web.UI for ASP.NET AJAX continues that tradition. ComponentArt took advantage of the frequent public preview releases of ASP.NET AJAX to ensure their control suite not only works well with ASP.NET AJAX 1.0 but also fully integrates with the framework on both the client and server. Web.UI is a powerful suite of controls that will take any site enhanced with ASP.NET AJAX to the next level."

For additional information on ComponentArt's strategy surrounding ASP.NET AJAX and Web.UI's deep integration with the framework, please refer to the posting "Interoperability" vs. "True ASP.NET AJAX Controls", and view the Web.UI for ASP.NET AJAX Video.

bullet ComponentArt Releases Web.UI Version 2006.2 - Introducing the First True Controls for ASP.NET AJAX

Nov 2 2006 - ComponentArt is pleased to announce the immediate availability of Web.UI version 2006.2. This new release features Web.UI for ASP.NET AJAX , the first suite of controls designed specifically for the Microsoft ASP.NET AJAX development framework (formerly code-named Atlas”), currently in Beta and scheduled for full release by year-end.

ComponentArt Web.UI for ASP.NET AJAX goes far beyond compatibility or basic interoperability with ASP.NET AJAX, but rather offers deep integration into the new framework: All controls inherit from the Sys.UI.Control client-side base class and expose extensive client-side object models built specifically for the Microsoft AJAX Library type system.

"We believe that the imminent release of ASP.NET AJAX and Web.UI for ASP.NET AJAX truly brings a new level of richness to web programming", says Miljan Braticevic, President of ComponentArt. "A whole new class of operations no longer require roundtrips to the server, improving page performance and making end user experience better than ever."

Developers can now create solutions that modify or even create the entire structure of any UI control entirely on the client, without the need for callbacks or postbacks. All client-side changes are automatically persisted to the server-side object state on callback or postback, delivering UI elements with the richness and optimized performance that end-users crave.

There is a clear demand for next-generation Web applications with enhanced client-side capabilities and an improved user experience," said Brian Goldfarb, group product manager of the Web Platform and Tools Group at Microsoft Corp. "Microsoft's goal with ASP.NET AJAX is to provide the foundation for building these richer, client-focused solutions and enable a new breed of reusable controls that empower the developers who create them. We are pleased to see that ComponentArt has set the bar so high with its fast adoption and thorough integration of our ASP.NET AJAX technology in their Web.UI 2006.2 release.

With the Web.UI version 2006.2, ComponentArt now offers three distinct and progressively powerful platform builds: Web.UI for ASP.NET 1.0, for ASP.NET 2.0 and for ASP.NET AJAX.
